MFF Top Ten! #4 - Hotel Room Secrets!
« on: November 09, 2012, 12:03:59 PM »
Did you know that one week from today, right about now, Opening Ceremonies for Midwest FurFest will be going on? You didn't? What, have you been living under a rock? Well, let's continue to enlighten you with #4 in the Midwest FurFest Top Ten - Hotel Room Secrets!

First off, let's talk about the minibar in your room. As a few folks found out last year, this is NOT a refrigerator! If you move anything in your minibar you will trigger a sensitive weight sensor, and you will AUTOMATICALLY BE CHARGED for what you moved. Take everything out to put your own stuff in? You'll be charged for everything in the minibar. The bottom line: If you don't want to be charged for anything, don't move anything in the minibar! Put a suitcase in front of it and ignore it for the weekend.

On a brighter note, we are delighted to report that once again the Hyatt is graciously reducing the charge for rollaway beds from $25 to a one-time $10 fee. Please keep in mind that due to fire codes, rollaway beds can only be placed in king rooms and suites - not double rooms. Rollaways are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Hyatt is renting extra rollaways for us, but they will probably run out before the weekend is over.

Additionally, something to keep in mind as you arrive at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare: The bellhops at the Hyatt are part of a union (one of the few unions we have had to deal with this year), and this means something very important: YOU CANNOT TAKE ANY LUGGAGE CARTS BY YOURSELF. Assume that every luggage cart has a bellhop attached to it, because they will not let the carts out of their sight. If you want to bring your own cart, that's just fine - there are no restrictions on this. If you want to carry your own stuff, that's great. But please do not try to take a luggage cart. In our experience, the bellhops at the Hyatt are friendly and helpful. They definitely earn their tips!

Finally, we have some great news. Remember how the Hyatt gave us free wireless Internet access in all sleeping rooms last year? Well, that was just the start of a permanent policy. Wireless Internet access in sleeping rooms and in the lobby is always free at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare! Please note, though, that this does not extend into the function space (if you are a dealer and would like to purchase Internet access in the Dealers Den, please talk to Brendan Lonehawk).

Facebook is abuzz and Twitter is tweetering about everyone's excitement for Midwest FurFest. Just a few days left to go! The Top Ten is going to take a break for the weekend, but we'll see you back here on Monday for #3 in the Midwest FurFest Top Ten!
